We’ve been helping my brother prepare his home, the almost 100 year old family house, for sale and it’s been a journey through so many memories. Yesterday, before the rain came overnight, the light shone through the sparkling windows and I walked into an empty house.
The really wonderful thing is that it's been purchased by the loveliest family with little boys and I foresee a whole new generation or more enjoying it. We live just up the road and so will get to watch its gentle metamorphosis.
I want that house! I want those memories! What a gift, Prue. Weren’t you the lucky ones? And aren’t we the lucky ones to be able to sit back and enjoy every minute of your reveries? Yes. Yes we are.
It's a wonderful folio of memories to have and in true age-ing fashion, they are becoming fresher and more powerful with time and as this tiny enclave changes (for the worst: filled with entitlement and modernisation).
I wish you had bought it, and moved Lock Stock and Smoking Barrels, to live in remote Tasmania. It's heavenly and removed and I think you and I might have had some fun discussions around the table or out on the back lawn.
Beautifully penned, Prue. It brigs a tear (or two)
Thanks Sally. Just pass the message on - the house has emerged with the unpretentious style of a beautiful old lady.
What a fabulous upbringing with such adventurous tales. Love this.
Thank you, Maree. We had a super childhood! And thank you for reading.
What a lovely home - if I had the means, I would be there in a minute. A home truly filled with lots of love and memories.

That's such great news - a new family for a home that's seen so much love for a long time.

Thank you, Ramona.
