Lovely. Love the puppies. And that tree! I also binge-watched 'Man on the inside' and loved it. It was sweet and funny and non-taxing and just the ticket!
those puppies sigh almost too much cuteness but so needed in this most peculiar of times.
don't even start me on the weather, my hair...it's hideous and makes me want to take to it with the clippers. i'm already dreaming of autumn and winters past when it got properly cold and my woollens were useful rather than just nice to look at.
Sure is strange old weather these days, we have rain here and it's blowing a hoolie, 50-60mph outside, but less than the west coast. They. are on a red warning of 90mph I'm staying close to home no reason to go out in this weather if not needing tooo
adorable puppies, I hope a nice one choses you xxx <4
The weather is SO unsettled! Humidity seems to be the only constant.
I LOVE the country sounds video. It felt like the frogs were just outside my door. I wasn’t sure until it ended whether they were your frogs or mine! And the video of the fellow doing ballet steps - impressive! Control, beauty, strength, elegance. Lovely.
Looking forward to posts ahead as your new pup chooses you and then grows as part of your lives.
Sending heaps of hugs and best wishes. Take care dear Prue.
Soooo humid. It's raining today - another inch at least since the early AM's and for some inconceivable reason, I decided we needed to make chutney as we've run out. So the house is humid and smells like a spice shop! I've turned the aircon on and also have the range hood pumping but its making no difference. Take care, Beth
Haha! I just picked up my phone to text you to say that our week’s weather is looking much better! Dryer, less humid and tops of 26 to 28 degrees. And realised, oops! No texting, just Substack. I clearly regard you as a Friend. I hope you have a lovely Sunday. Hugs dear Prue.
I think I would get too confused, Alice. This name has presented itself in many ways over the last month, even though we had a list. It's most likely the one and sits nicely with his kennel prefix, not that he will ever be shown.
I'm not a fan of showing (my Dad used to show beagles) and part of the deal with the breeder is that we don't. I'm fine with that. By the way, have you seen this book: https://rmdrake.com/products/dog-people I would love to purchase it but by the time I pay freight from the States, it's close to $A100. Instead, I just sigh over the beautiful prose.
Butter balls indeed! Nothing so cute as a puppy pile! When I went to pick up my wire haired dachshund puppy, the breeder hesitated for just a moment before handing him to me. He told me to whisper his name in his ear three times and the puppy would know who he was and know he was mine forever. As I write this, Dobbins is stretched across my lap( A 21 lb lap dog!) with his nose buried in the crook of my elbow. This is his favorite morning spot as I drink my coffee and read. It is my favorite, as well. I am really looking forward to reading how "The Terrior" continues to dwell in and heal your heart in memories and gently nudge you towards the puppy who awaits you.
It will be interesting as the breeder is content for the puppy to choose us, rather than vice versa. It's the way we've always found our little hairy friends. It allows that indefinable soul thread to ply itself between dog and human.
PS: Love the name Dobbins. Perfect. Dobby for short?
Having two rescue cats, I can certainly relate to the pie chart. How will you decide which of those adorable puppies to adopt? My guess is that you'll just know.
Loved all of this, Prue, and especially enjoyed the delightful links. Daughter says it has been unbearably hot in Sydney, even at night, and reminds me that the "worst" of summer isn't until February. Gosh!
"I observe that if I turn outward instead of in, subtle pops of light appear..." This is true again and again. Thank you for the reminder. And those puppies!
The nights are horrible currently, Elizabeth. It would be a lot worse further north in Sydney. My brother lived in Sydney all his working life and mould in shoes and clothes was a consistent problem.
We get a sniff of a seabreeze in the evening as we walk and which requires a sweater, but then by bedtime, one has to turn the aircon on if one wants to sleep. Husband and self have a problem in that I hate a warm humid house in which to sleep and want snow dripping off the aircon, whilst husband feels the cold badly.
But you know what they say: Happy wife, happy life...' ;)
Prue, I love that Candy dance link - sort of a Klezmer tempo! So cheery, I love a bit of Klezmer myself. And the puppies! They are so sweet, I can just imagine the chubbiness as you scoop them up. And I know what you mean about watching these dark detective dramas - we binge watched Unforgotten - brilliant of course - but way too much after a while.
So yes, we too are enjoying Man on the Inside. Sometimes light is sorely needed these days!!
I had to google Klezmer and yes, you are right, it is very similar! I've managed to get as far as the developé and that's when the cramp kicks in after 3 weeks away from the barre. Isn't it fun though? Our teacher is convinced she can get we seniors to do the whole routine. I hope we can - it would be great for us all to pull it off.
The puppies are what's helping with the grief right now. I think that it's such a huge thing that the pups were born just 3 days after the Terrier passed away...
You are so right about something light being needed at the moment. Now husband and self (yes, even husband!) are working our way through Netflix's Christmas catalogue. So far we've watched 4 movies. They are fun, sweet, nice and all have happy endings and we love the snow, the dentistry which is as white as the snow, and have decided that the film company - Canadian Entertainment - has shares in Christmas decorations. We're enjoying them!
Love these recordings of bush birds and other sounds! Takes me to a land far, far away and so ethereal! What a nice break from the grey and cold damp here in Seattle currently. (Although, family, so no complaints!)
Keeping fingers crossed for a puppy that knows a good thing and seeks you out straight away with wagging tail and wet kisses. ❤️
It's grey and damp here too, Sabrina. No surprises there. But at least the temps are lower - 19 Celsius. Perfect .
Golly, my heart turns over when I think of Sunday and the pups. They'll only be 4 weeks old and bumbling butterballs, probably with not much personality so we'll go back again after Christmas, I hope.
That is true dog-loving wisdom…to wait and let the puppy pick *you.* And to also wait while the puppy grows up a little! I hope you’ll keep sending those adorable pics!
Oh Prue, you're making your own sunshine - that sounds absolutely wonderful! And I'm so delighted that you've got a date in the diary to visit the pups so that one can choose you - that is such gorgeously heartening news. I'm so pleased for you! ❤️
Lovely. Love the puppies. And that tree! I also binge-watched 'Man on the inside' and loved it. It was sweet and funny and non-taxing and just the ticket!
Exactly so, Ramona. By the way - a brilliant piece of Resistance writing by Richard la France today. I'm sure you've probably seen it.
No, I haven't. Don't know of him. I'll look him up. Thanks.

Thanks for introducing me. I just subscribed.

In a first for me, Kate, I'm dreaming of autumn/winter too. Remind me of that when I start complaining in 2025!
A puppy for Xmas. Wonderful. 🥰🙏🎄
No, not till well into the New Year. But that's as it should be. We and the pups themselves need much more time to adjust and grow.

Bah humbug pressed the button too soon. The puppies are adorable, I'm sure a lovely one will choose you xx ❤️😊💕
Ha! That's the kind of thing I do, Libby. Stay safe in the wind. Don't want you flying off like Mary Poppins!

Oh you poor sweaty thing! Sigh. This too shall pass. And then you shall enjoy the chutney. Grin.

I am always happy when you write about dogs. Will we be able to suggest names?

We would like the pup to choose us. Its how we've always done it. Here's hoping.

Ha! The wisest ones learn to accommodate that, don't they? 😅

“…the dentistry which is as white as the snow…” Ha!! That is perfect!
Loved this a lot Prue!! Looking forward to puppy stories but in the meanwhile, nature is pretty awesome!
