Just a quick note this week (and early). It’s that sort of week as Easter hopped toward us… the idea of chocolate and more chocolate and family, just too enticing for words.
I thought as I read The Keeper of Stories by Sally Page last night, that perhaps we are all keepers of stories from our daily lives. We listen, we think and we digest, don’t we? And some people have such stories to tell. Substack is filled with keepers of stories.
People like Luisa
like Elizabeth
like Rebecca
and Lindsay
and of course Tom, who is a true keeper of stories
As he journeys across the USA, he finds quietly engaging people and teases heart-warming stories from them.
Like Tom, I collect the odd story from life. But as a fiction writer, I think they are such perfect histories to stretch and illuminate. Maybe I should note them in my journal for reference, but I just catalogue them in my mind. Should I tell them on Substack? Moral dilemma, to be honest.
And so to Doing:
We’ve been in the city for almost a week, which was busy in the beginning, with a couple of lovely walks alongside the Derwent River.
But I began Easter with a trip to A & E. I write to you now from my room in Calvary Hospital where I’m hooked up to a drip filled with super-powered drugs to get me on the road again. There is an inevitability about it all as I expect abdominal surgery ultimately. I think about the Princess of Wales and wonder how anyone could expect her to show up, look good and smile when she’s been in pain and discomfort. Now that cancer is added to the mix, all I can say is ‘Back off, people! Give her some peace and grace!’
Anyway, back to the hospital – I keep myself occupied by reading, writing and stitching. There’s a baby rug commission that prevents tedium.
I asked the admitting doctor in A&E if he could let the Easter Bunny know I’m here and he said, the Easter Bunny always visits on Easter Sunday. Hoorah! I hope he visits you too. Nothing like Easter eggs. Are you a chocaholic? I am … unashamedly…
So apologies for this one quick note, stay safe and have a restful and gentle holiday.
See you next week.
Music for this week?
I know I should have something Easter-ish but this one gave me the idea for my newsletter. I love it. Hope you enjoy it too.
Oh dear Prue! Hope you get the rest and recuperation you need. And of course chocolate will help! And the one note samba is brilliant! Thanks for all you bring us ❤️. Happy Easter 🐇🪺🌺
Oh Prue, I do hope that the treatment settles it down and that if you do need surgery then you don't have too rough a time of it. and take it easy. ( yes I know Pot kettle black ) ;)
As for poor Catherine, I am sickened by the gutter press and people that have nowt better to do then to publish such garbage like us all she is entiteled to keep her medical inrofmation private and only tell people she wants to tell.
I do hope the Easter bunny visits you and leaves a nice surprise. I am not a great lover of Easter eggs, as they are a bit sickly, but I do have some minstrels that I rather like, so I might open them on Sunday .
Take care and do as the doctors advise, sending love and gentle hugs xxx
