Oh, Prue. Such a gorgeous post. Thank you for bringing me such terrific things to read in 2024, and here's to a fabulous 2025 with all of its joy bundled up with the inevitable unpredictabilities set to temper - and exceed - the unanticipated.
Roxham Young Terrier is a TERRIFIC young lad - I'm so excited for you! Sending love. 🥰 Happy New Year! You'll be seeing 2025 many hours before we do - I'm excited for you for that, toooooooo! xxx
Yes, only a few hours before the fireworks explosions. Do you know, every year for 10 years, I would load The Terrier into the car and twice in the night (9PM and midnight) , would drive far from the noise so that he wouldn't be scared. So this is a new year, a clean slate.
It remains to be seen if the pup is scared of fireworks.
I'm excited about the arrival of the Young Terrier - I feel as if I'm about to give birth. In a way, I suppose we ARE about to be new parents. Happy 2025 to you and to Jim. Have a wonderful evening. XXXX
Oh gosh, yes, fireworks and pets - never a good combination! How lovely that you would take the Terrier out of harm’s way. Where we live is very rural but it’s right in the heart of an area where they go absolutely bonkers for Guy Fawkes, and even though November 5th was yonks ago there’ll be bangs and bonfires and fireworks here tonight.
It’ll be an early night for us - we haven’t ‘seen in’ the new year for years! There’ll be a glass of Prosecco and a nice meal at home, though, and perhaps a film on telly. IDEAL! xxx
That sounds like a lovely, cozy way to ring in the new year! There's no need for grand celebrations when you're enjoying good food and a favorite show. Virgin River is a great choice! Sometimes, the simple things are the best. I wish you a peaceful start to 2025!.... happy new year🙏🙏
Wow, what a beautiful tradition you had with The Terrier, making sure he wasn’t scared by the fireworks each year. It’s clear how much love and care you gave him. I’m so excited for you and the arrival of the Young Terrier! It’s definitely a new chapter, and I’m sure you’ll be wonderful parents. Wishing you all the best for 2025, and a peaceful evening ahead. Happy New Year to you and Jim as well! XXXX
Apologies for the mix-up, and thank you for letting me know! Wishing you both all the best for the New Year, and I appreciate the clarification. Cheers and best wishes for 2025!...If you don't mind you can follow me so we can know each other and you can drop a message for me..
What a fabulous post Prue, wishing you a much happier and healthier 2025, and look forward to hearing tales of the new Terrier. fun days ahead and lots of joy methinks. Much love dear friend xxx
When I got Dobbins, my wirehaired dashchund, I found a lovely and timely book, My Dog My Buddha To:Human, Love: Dog by Kimberly Artley. I've taken the puppy classes and read the books and watched the videos but the lessons in this book helped me be a better dog-mom. I've never had such a strong bond with the beloved dogs in my past as I now have with him. Let the mischief and cuddle marathons begin!!
Yes it's been quite the year - so many ups and downs, all the unexpected turbulence of life.
Your wisdom is so welcome and such a good reminder for me. One of my own fav mantras is "Today we begin again" which I believe originated from the Benedictines. (But I still like it lol!)
I admire you in so many ways Prue and wish you all health and happiness in the upcoming year. And cannot WAIT to hear more about your wee fuzzy 'philosopher' - that rolling gait alone is adorable. Hugs!
Thank you, Sue. He's very blimp-like. Obviously been in a good paddock. I think he's meant for us as his rolling walk makes him seem a bit of a sea-dog. We're so lucky to have him coming to us - it's spooky the way the stars aligned. I'm positive The Terrier had a role to play in it. In 'Buddhism for Pet Lovers- supporting our closest companions through life and death' (David Michie), it seems quite possible.
In respect of life - how disappointing it would be to be blandly linear. The peaks are always all the more wonderful because of the troughs that may have preceded them, don't you think?
Happy New Year, Prue (realizing you are already into day two)! I am so excited about your new pup and am sure he is going to be centered in your universe, right in there with your family, your gardens, your dancing, and the sea.
I have a hankering to move more in 2025, in ways I've been missing. For years, I've been devoted to my gym classes and don't want to let go of those. But, I need to add time to walk. Just walk. Like you, I am leery of resolutions. But I find that setting an intention helps me remember what seemed important to include as I reflect back on the year gone by.
Looking forward to sharing my discoveries with you and to reading about yours!
2025 will be all the more dimensional because of people like you on Substack. I was nervous of entering the new year after last year but when I sit quietly and think of all the good things that can and will be happening, I'm content. The Dalai Lama specifically said to focus on the 'happy' of Happy New Year. Sound advice.
This was an absolutely perfect way to start the New Year…with a big smile! I’m inspired by the sage words of the Terrier, and the “limitless possibilities” each day brings. (By the way, when you had referred to him as “H.” somehow I *knew* he was named Harry!) Although I may make opportunities for a bit of “coddiwompling too, like the new puppy!
Wishing you joy with your new family member! And thank *you* for the great pleasure I’ve had, reading your posts!

No, we don't do New Year either.
Dinner as per, and currently the last episode of Virgin River. We're so boring in our old age.

Thanks Brian, and to you. But I'm not married to a Jim. Another name entirely, which he prefers not to be used online. Cheers and best wishes.

Thank you, Libby. Here's to 2025, dear friend. May it go a little easier than 2024 on all of us.
I can't wait to cuddle the Young Terrier on an hourly, daily basis - my heart warms and I feel all fizzy.
Love to you and to Jeff.
He’s such a cutie. All the best for the year ahead dear Prue. 🤗🤗
And to you, Beth. Good health and happiness.

I must find that book, Susan, thank you for the reference.
Mischief indeed. By the way, I love Dobbins for a name! Happy 2025.

All love for the New Year!
What an adorable little guy and a wonderful addition to your family. It's a great way to start the new year.
Thanks, Janice! And HNY to you too!
Happy New Year to you and your loved ones, and the little Roxham Young Terrier. May 2025 be full of wonder. The pup is adorable.
Thanks so much Mary. Here's to you too. Many more miles, hey?
Thanks, and yes! Many more miles. :-)

Thank you for being a part of Knots in the String on such a regular basis. It's been a joy.
“A joy”! Thank you so much—I will treasure that!
