Wow, so much I love about this post! Your photo of the womble with those EYES. My goodness-they are the most wise, penetrating sense of knowing I've ever seen. No wonder you two belong to each other.

As ever, I love your felted easter eggs, and have sent you an email with a photo of our spring tree, inspired by you of course.

And the article by Cindy Hattersley is a delightful interview. Even though I feel like I know most of the bits you shared there, it was nice to read it all together like that. The photos accompanying the interview are all lovely too.

Hope you enjoy a calm Easter weekend with the family, the womble, and a few treats! xx

Firstly, thank you so much for your lovely comments!

And if you would like any more eggs, let me know.

Secondly those womble-eyes - sometimes we look at each other and I feel as if I'm gazing into some sort of unfathomable wisdom. I feel so frustrated that I can't decipher what he's trying to say as he gazes back at me with such intensity. Because there's something there, I'm sure. But being a ridiculous human, I just pick him up, we cuddle and he licks my ear...

A peaceful Easter break to you too. XXXX

I bet that is really all the womble wants ❤️

Wonderful. The wise young womble holds his own perfectly. Welcome to all your newbies! And congratulations on a beautifully readable article in that other Substack.

Always a grounding read. Enjoy the city for these few days. Not long now and you can head home. Sending heaps of hugs and best wishes.

Thank you, Beth. I hope you're having a peaceful and gentle Easter there in New South Wales. Our weather has cooled into a beautiful autumn with chilly nights requiring blankets and sunny days with clear blue skies. Best time of year along with spring.

Walking and gardening to be done today and preparing for a picnic with the whole family tomorrow. Plus an eggstrvaganza for the grandson! XXXX

Your felted hearts are tenderly beautiful, Prue. Your pup is adorable. Hunkering down takes many forms, the result of which can be profound contentment and thankfulness for what one has. Happy Easter to you and your loved ones. P.S. Thanks for recommending my Substack. I, too, thought I was spammed when all of a sudden, I had so many new followers. Your ripple effect is felt worldwide. ❤️

Happy Easter to you, Mary. I have a feeling your house may be fragrant with Hot X buns made by Jim. My mouth waters.

I think the nice thing about all our Substack accounts is that kindred spirits have gravitated toward each other. All with mostly gentle messages of daily joy and acute observations of our daily lives. Cheers and happy biking.

Thanks, Prue. Our house is fragrant indeed! 😊 I agree about kindred spirits in the virtual community of Substack. It's a wonderful, beautiful place. Cheers back, and enjoy your weekend.

Happy Easter Prue - those embroidered eggs are absolutely exquisite! My fav is the bunny in the boat, seems very you somehow, Many congrats again on your interview and subsequent flooding of new fans. I am sure they will all love it here with you as we all do. Many hugs and yes, sadly agree 100% with your Faustian replacement theory ...

prue batten's avatar

Thanks so much, Sue. The maritime ones are my faves too - for obvious reasons. I also did one of a wee Jack Russell and a bunny. It was a devil to do but it talks of my little fellow and was worth the eye-squinting!

It's lovely that so many new readers have subscribed and I do hope they'll stay. I feel very privileged. I hope they'll forgive my occasional anti-Trump sprays but its hard watching what this war is doing to farmers across the Australian nation and being a farming family, I feel I must defend our business which that frightful man is threatening.

Anyway, its the most stunningly blue Easter Saturday, walking and gardening to be done and a need to wear off the excess Hot Cross Buns from yesterday and the Good Friday dinner from last night! Take care and love - email will be sent to Canada soon-ish... XXXX

No rush my friend! xo

First reading of your post! Pooch and felted eggs are adorable. More please!

As to the Orange Man, I live in the US and send sincerest apologies for his blundering the whole world into this mess. I feel we are doing COVID for a second time. Ugh! More and more citizens are having buyer's remorse. Only time will tell when we can return him to sender.

prue batten's avatar

Holly, you don't have to apologise. I think there's a chain reaction happening in the USA as people begin to feel their strength. I subscribe to Ramona Grigg, to Heather Cox Richardson and Mary Robley and I read Robert Reich in other spheres - they are profound Americans.

But it does feel like Covid, for sure. Our cost of living is now rising daily. Hang in there, I say. Keep your goalposts close. My offspring are justifiably very anxious.

And thank you so much re my beloved pupsicle and the eggs. I write once a week and it will be such a pleasure to talk with you each time.

Best wishes and thanks for your support.

You are a wonder, Prue. It's lovely to read how connected you and your pup are now, remembering how hard it was to recommit your heart to a new friend. After a week of traveling, I went back for a gym class on Thursday and was uncharacteristically sore for two days after. Our bodies need movement, despite the complaints, and what you and your fellow classmates are doing is so much more elegant than my work! Congratulations on the Cindy Hattersley piece; you two resemble each other, with your classically styled good looks.

Much as I despise this wholly unnecessary war, the administration attached to it, and what it's done and will do to people the world over, part of me hopes the food, fuel and fertilizer prices will snap some of this nation's conservative-voting agricultural sector out of their stupor. I can tell you that I hear from people across the country that many of the garish signs in support of the orange menace are no longer on display.

Thank you for the heart-felt gifts you bring to the hospital, send across the seas, and offer here. Wishing you gentle, family-filled Easter magic.

Thanks for your kind words. So many folk have subscribed to Knots, courtesy of wonderful Cindy, and I just hope I don't let them down.

Like you, I'm very sore today - had a MASSIVE DAY in the garden yesterday. Staggered that a tiny space like the townhouse needs so much pruning and clearing, but then it has been independent of us right through the spring and summer.

It's pleasing to hear that those Americans who voted for that ghastly man are doing a rethink. Our fuel is steady now thanks to our government dropping the fuel excise for 3 months, but as we don't produce our own oil and only have two refineries, Australia is dependent on imports, and thanks to the Strait of Hormuz disaster that this unnecessary war has caused, things here will get worse before they get better. Farmers and much of the general population are bitter and I can't blame them.

Off for a family picnic today - I do hope your Easter is restful and safe. Best wishes.

I love your blog and the peace and comfort you always convey. I chuckled as I thought of when we ate my mother's preserved pickles until two- years after she passed. Depression-era indeed, and values I cherish. ❤️

prue batten's avatar

Thank you, Carol. How wonderful that your mother's preserves lasted so long. My mum died ten years ago and I still have a jar of her pickled walnuts! I treasure those values deeply as well. Waste not, want not.

Have a safe Easter and cheers.

Just read the article you linked to and loved the photos of you. So elegant!!! I wonder about the Faustian pact thing - Didn't Faust suffer eventually? It's one of those things i thought I knew but had to look up...apparently in Goethe's version he dies in a state of 'hopeful anticipation' which is not what I wanted to know. However, in Marlowe's version he 'suffers immensely and eternally. At the end of his 24-year pact, he is consumed by terror, remorse, and despair as the clock strikes midnight. He is dragged off to Hell by devils, enduring eternal damnation as punishment for his pride and sins.' That's more like it. Anyway that aside, I loved this Post - really felt like I was visiting with you. As you begin to hunker down my magnolia and camellias are just venturing forth...full of promise! Happy Easter Prue - have a wonderful time with your family.

prue batten's avatar

Thanks so much for your kind comments, Jennifer. Elegant? Hurrah! Although you should have seen me yesterday after all day in the townhouse garden which has had no love for 6 months. I looked like Worzel Gummidge!

I saw a lovely post on Insta of the King with Beckham and the folk from Gardenworld who are designing a garden for the Kings Trust for Chelsea and I thought I cannot wait to watch the telecast of Chelsea on Britbox. It's prime annual viewing for me. I want a video tour of your Open Garden too!

I have only read Marlowe's Faust and didn't realise Goethe had softened the blow, so to speak. In any case, in my world, there's this thing called 'karma'. It has a way of playing out. This is where I fail as a follower of Buddhism. I should be feeling compassion for Trump but I look into my soul and find I can't. Perhaps karma will get me in the end as well.

That said, I'm glad the missing US fighter pilot was found. That's one good thing.

Take care and eat lots of choccie!

Krystyna's avatar

Thank you Prue for your ruminations, you made me feel as though I were having a quiet chat with a friend. I am at peace! It’s Easter Monday I’ve had my fill of fresh sea food and not an ounce of choc passed these 76 yr old lips.

Thank you again, your words made me reflect and appreciate all that I have in life.
